Acceptance, Mindfulness, & CBT Links

Mindfulness & acceptance, particularly with regard to emotional and psychological pain, are very old ideas. What is neat is that there is now a growing science showing that learning acceptance and mindfulness skills can be of enormous benefit for a wide range of human suffering, spanning anxiety, depression, stress, chronic pain, burnout, trichotillomania (chronic hair pulling), substance abuse, smoking cessation, diabetes, epilepsy, and some of the more serious psychological problems that we know of, namely schizophrenia. You'll find reference to this work at the Association for Contextual Behavioral Science website. Balancing mindful acceptance with value-guided behavior change is at the heart of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (or ACT).

There are many good books and other resources on the application of ACT and CBT for many forms of human suffering. The web offers many resources about mindfulness, acceptance, kindness, and compassion and how these skills can be learned as a way to move forward into a fuller and more dignified life. There are also a number of great resources about how to use CBT to make important changes with your anxiety and your life. Below, we provide just a few links.
